High Risk Drivers

Welcome to The Right Track latest news and blog! This is the first blog.

A report just released by the Transport Minister shows clearly what we at The Right Track have known all along – that high risk drivers cause a significant amount of the carnage and problems on New Zealand roads. One in three deaths on our roads are caused by drivers who are – unlicensed and disqualified, repeat speeding and drink driving offenders. 642 deaths occured on our roads between 2005 and 2009  where these high risk drivers were at fault.

New Zealand has yet to recognise the enormity of the problem and act accordingly. World wide billions of dollars are spent in this arena and, according to the statistics available, few of the interventions have a long term effect! The Right Track, a totally NZ initiative, is proven to have an incredible life changing effect on this high risk group. According to the NZ Police Statistics, available on this website, in excess of 80% of those attending the programme have not reoffended over a four year period!!!

I wonder when Mr Joyce et al in government will decide to fund this initiative? Should they?

Should they …..no question that they should …every one holding a new drivers Licence should go through this program . Better to teach , before any event.
The result and cost of drink driving far exceeds any eduction program. A smart person fixes the problem before its a problem……
Is this program worth it ? ….you bet
    Pass the knowledge on.
    Regards Bruce

  • Thanks Bruce
As is evidenced through the continued statistics of Right Track there is a nationa need for behavioural change in this arena. At $1700 per learner to do the course as opposed to $2.2 million plus to clear up a ftal it’s a no brainer!

i reckon they should as it is a good program for anybody to attend,
as it will teach you alot and you will see things that might actually open your eyes and make you realise what can happen if you do drink and drive, speed or if your an unlicensed driver.
Yes this program is worth it every session you go to it is interesting and you will learn alot from it.
    regards serena.

I’m gonna throw my stone in the pond.

This programme has been instrumental in turning my nephew around and not only on the road. He has taken the lessons learnt on The Right Track and applied them the rest of his life.

Lets stop our taitamariki killing and maiming themselves and others. It’s very easy to point the finger, much harder to hold out a hand.

Thank you to Helen, John and the rest of the team for holding out theirs.

Kia kaha to the 15 who graduated last night.

The graduation of this group Tony has been outstanding and I appreciate the comments. Your nephew has turned his life around and with the continued support of yourself he will embark on a new journey of self discovery that will benefit himself and in a ripple effect way, the whole of NZ. Thanks for coming and being part of the whanau Tony, kia kaha. spread the word!

Well done John , good to see others on the blog and giving such positive feedback. Luke (cars ) has shown good positive thinking and action , we now see car pooling and sober drivers being used , with the odd sleep over. Thank goodness….

I have to share this extra message we got on saturday ( I should have added it in my speech )

…..on returning from the spinal unit , we stopped at the lights , a van drew up next to us . On the rear window in huge letters were the words ” GOD BLESS ” …….by chance , I do not think so , I am sure it was a message to all of us………..you , your team and everyone on that course.

It would be great if your next groups could read this site , before they go on the course.
I am , of course , willing to help at your next Waitakere course in may.
Good luck with your currant group , I hope you are on a run with 100% results.
I will end with these words
    God Bless
    regards Bruce

    Hi John and helen.
Ive been meaning to write a blog on here for some time… here goes.

ive been involved in supporting the right track now for 9 courses here in the waikato via my role as community policing sergeant – police. I want to say what a privilage it has been to see the changes the right track has made in the lives of those on the course. not only the learners but the support persons / family who come along also.I myself have been amazed how much I have learnt as well by being involved.what a course, what a powerful learning experience . REAL changes in driving attitude and behaviour well done RIGHT TRACK!!

    • It is a privilege Paul to have someone as caring and supportive as yourself in the Right Track whanau. You epitomise all that is good about the police force and humanity and I am exceedingly glad that I have been lucky enough to have stood next to you as you “hold hands” with some pretty interesting characters (physically and metaphorically) and encourage people to change their lives. Thanks Paul
