MSD CYF Report for 2016

The September 2016 MSD CYF Report has now been received and makes very positive reading. A couple of important points:
100% of the learners attending the programme did not reoffend whilst on the programme – a remarkable statistic really because this was a really high risk cohort and for them not to reoffend is outstanding. As an addition, to date, Jan 2017,we have not received any information to the contrary to suggest that any of them have reoffended yet – amazing!

The report states that the programme is “value for money” which completely debunks any comment about the programme being expensive – we are a mid range service with ‘off the chart’ success – definitely value for money!!

Thirdly, the report also states that there should be many more referrals with the change in policy meaning that MSD CYF now has responsibility for young adults up to and including 18 years of age, so we look forward to many more referrals and increased funding.

Fifteen learners aged between 15-36 arrived with their supporters and were warmly welcomed by Kaumatua Piripi and Judge Jelas. What an interesting, diverse group – 12 out of the 13 have EBA offences – I don’t see NZ getting better at diverting drunk drivers or encouraging better behaviours, we seem to be getting even . . . → Read More: Waitakere February 2017 begins!!

Hamilton Right Track – Repeat Impaired Drivers Programme

Exciting news – we have developed a slightly extended Right Track for New Zealand Repeat Impaired Drivers funded by the Ministry of Health and have been given the opportunity to run the programme in Hamilton – awesome! There will be two programmes a year for the next three years and will target those people that may be best described as recidivists – a cohort that poses a real threat on NZ Roads and whose behaviours and attitudes are firmly entrenched in their life styles – this will be a real challenge but one that I am sure we can face up to and conquer. The dates for the programmes are on the “Calendar” section of the website.

A new era for Right Track

The Right Track Programme is beind adapted for “Repeat Impaired Driving Offenders” and is being funded by the Ministry of Health – brilliant news!!

The adapted programme will be delivered twice in Hamilton in 2013/14/15 and is further recognition of the undoubted success of Right Track.

Details of this initiative will be published in the New Year. This meand that in 2013 there will be at least three programmes in Hamilton and is the result of the brilliant partnerships established between Eduk8 Trust, Judges, Hamilton City Council, NZ Fire Brigade, Waikato District Health Board Trauma Team, CYF, NZ Police and of course our superb Patrons – Mayor Julie Hardaker, Judge Glen Marshall, Nick Chsinall and CYF Regional Manager George Ririnui.

Started Tuesday last week and did Session 2 on Saturday – Excellent!!!

Auckland August Programme

We are now four sessions in to the August Programme and it’s great to see the amazing changes that the young people are experiencing. The Risk management session last saturday certainly takes people out of their comfort zone and gets them to communicate and hear each other, otherwise they don’t get the tasks completed. This has been the turning point for the group and we all look forward to great success during the next three sessions.

So disappointing to continue to read about the carnage on New Zealand roads in the press last week. Just a reality check, since the start of this programme there have been five, 16-25 year olds killed on the roads – TRAGIC!!!!
